Words of Wisdom From Krukodile

Why sell Spirits, Beer and Wine?

As you all hopefully know we have asked that we look to increase our liquor mixes in 2008. Many people ask why sell spirits, beer and wine. Well there is the standard answers of a better customer experience, it increases sales and it is profitable. Well truth be told, it’s for health reasons.
As Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.
In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. c oli) - bacteria found in feces In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.
However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine &beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.
Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health Therefore, it’s better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of s**(poop)*.
There is no need to thank me for this valuable in formation: I’m doing it as a public service.

Hackers Again!

The last few days I have not been able to log on to do any type of posting on this web site. Tonight when I got home I realized why, hackers have once again infiltrated Koalatynews.com. It looks as if we are going to have to go to level red security. Now I want to be clear and say these guys and or gals are good, it seems their postings cannot be removed. We believe we know who the culprit is. It seems he/she is having difficulty practicing our Principle of Fun. And trying to get back for previous postings.
The video posted yesterday I’m sure will raise a few comments, which I am well prepared to deal with straight on. Yes that is Krukodile in one of his finer momments.

Lori’s Fashions

Yes, just when you think you’ve seen it all. Someone asked if all of Lori’s designs were just for women, the answer is no. Recently we captured a picture of one of Lori’s male model trying on one of her newest fashions. I believe she might be considering it for her new bartender uniform. We have edited the picture so the models privacy would be maintained. Hmmm! Looks like a Jack and Coke in his hand!

Bye Bye

Unfortunately we will be saying good bye to Stacie Maggiora today. Stacie has decided to change her career. Starting Tuesday she will have the full time responsibilities of her three children. Stacie started with us in October 1998 as a server in Dublin. She became a manager in Campbell in 2000 being part of the busiest Outback in the Company at that time. Along with being part of numerous Softball Championships. She has made a tremendous contribution to the Outback over the last 10 years. We truly wish her the best in her new responsibilities. The way I see it she is giving up 60 children for three, she might be coming out ahead in this deal. Good Luck!

Things are getting tough!

I can’t imagine how some journalist can continue to write article after article. It seems I have a severe case of writers block. Oh, I just thought of something. One thing that everyone is aware of is that sales are a real struggle for not only us but our entire segment of the industry. In the last G’Day Times it featured a segment about what the restaurants in the Cincinnati area were focusing on the weekends and taking care of every customer that was coming in. The sense of urgency we have to take care of our customers is directly related to the sales we do for the evening. Some known facts. Our host staffs over quotes our customers most of the time. Our host staff wants the table to be completely cleaned and ready before they will page the customer. Our host staff is indifferent to customers leaving because the wait is to long. If we could change these three concerns, would we do more business on our weekend nights? This is what was addressed in the Outback’s in the Cincinnati area. They are focused on quoting the wait correctly. They are focused on seating a table immediately and having customers on deck. They are focused on not allowing any customer to leave if the waits to long.
Let’s not fool ourselves, these opportunities exist and there are sales waiting to be gained each weekend night.

Hot Schedules

The week after Fathers Day we will be beginning on-line scheduling. Hot Schedules will be comming to your Outback shortly. This will allow our Outbacks to post schedules on line. This will include functions such as schedule request, break sheets, and shift changes. Our partners and managers will be learning this system in early June and will have them in place right after Fathers Day. There is no doubt this will be beneficial for all Outbackers! So soon you won’t have to call the mgr. for your schedule just go to www.hotschedules.com.

Specials Mix

Yesterday we talked about liquor mix and how we as an area had 6 restaurants improve their mix over the same month last year. In fact I forgot to mention as an area we also had positive liquor mix for the month. Looking forward to seeing that trend continue in May. Unfortunately, we are seeing a different trend in the area of specials. As you can see by the update, every Outback has gone backwards on their percentage of specials mix from the last update on May 11th with the exception of Dublin. We need to continue to make sure that we are offering these items to each and every customer. Our goal is to be over 10 percent and right now we only have four restaurants achieving this. Make sure the behaviors you created in March and April do not get forgotten in May
